While watching the NFL draft there are certain questions that people ask themselves; such as, “Why did the head coach and general manager pick that particular player? How are they going to help my team this season? What are they thinking? ” We can all make our educated guesses and assumptions. We can listen to the reports on ESPN; however we will really never know why they picked that particular person during that particular round.

According to Tony Manfred, an author for Business Insider, “There is a 1.7% chance of college players’ playing professionally.” When you look at the St. Louis Rams 2014 Draft picks they are described as the following from the NFL website:

Maurice Alexander is, “Explosive, Aggressive and energetic…Big, physical and athletic…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Christopher Bryant is, “Good athlete with nice balance, Good football smarts, very good personal and football character…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Aaron Donald is, “Plays with natural leverage, Explosive, Good foot athlete, athleticism…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

E.J. Gaines is, “Good muscularity lies to hit, plays with confidence and carries a swagger…Strong plays bigger than his size and takes a professional approach…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Garrett Gilbert is, “Outstanding size, very good timing, touch and short accuracy…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Lamarcus Joyner is, “Instinctive and anticipatory, respected, vocal team leader with an infectious attitude…terrific college football player, has a make-it attitude and winning mentality…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Tre Mason is, “Low center of gravity, quick out of the blocks, trustworthy in pass protection…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Greg Robinson is, “Big, Strong, athletic, overpowering…very athletic” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Demetrius Rhaney is, “very good quickness, agility, and balance. Solid anchor in pass protection…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Michael Sam is, “Plays hard—gives great effort and competes every down, good on-field intensity and demeanor and very durable…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

Mitchell Van Dyk is, “Tough, competitive…Displays the football temperament to compete in the run game…” (Nawrocki, 2014).

So why after reading all these incredible football analysis are the fans and social media more focused on the fact that Michael Sam is the first openly gay player in the NFL and that he kissed his white boyfriend after receiving the most wonderful news from St. Louis Ram’s head coach, Jeff Fisher, stating that he will be playing for the St. Louis Rams as a DE.

Would people really care if he kissed his wife the same way?

Probably not! The real questions that people should be asking are:

Will the All-American, Aaron Donald help spice up the defense and be ready to tackle the quick and strategic Russell Wilson during the 2014 season? Will Lamarcus Joyner be able to cover and tackle the top slot receivers; such as, Percy Harvin and Anquan Boldin during the 2014 season?

These are the real questions that we all should be asking and watching for during the off-season practices. Not focusing on who Michael Sam kissed.

Come on people… Let’s talk football.
