Mariota, Mariota, Mariota! For those of you old enough to know what I am referring to from the Brady Bunch, kudos. For those that are not, it’s cool. I am just tyring to inform you that all the talk running up to the Draft has been about only 2 QBs. Jameis Winston and mostly Marcus Mariota. I am honestly highly annoyed. There is so much talent in this upcoming draft that is being well over looked in the QB position because of these two overrated prospects that it is hard to see through the “thick” and look to other QBs that can bring a boost to any team with the right coaching. I’ll focus on just one talent for now. That guy is Brett Hundley.

This 2013 Sun Bowl Co-MVP is a “broke man’s” Mariota. He has most of the same talent but will come at a fourth of the cost. He has been a starter for three years, so he knows how to take command of an offense. According to NFL.com he has thrown and ran for a TD in all but 1 of his 40 games in college. When viewing the tape of Hundley I could clearly see a run first mentality out of this player. Hundley has a very slender build even at 6’3”, 223 lbs, which helps with his ability to be so elusive. He will make the first and second defender miss almost every time.

This star Bruins player has great downfield vision and a quick release. Hundley at the snap has good initial ability to use his eyes and shoulders to draw off the safeties from his target. My only problem with that is that with the initial fake he does not mix it up enough. At the next level guys like Eric Reid, Jarius Byrd and Earl Thomas are going to catch on quick, unless he learns to go through his progressions.

Come draft day, we will see Hundley go in the second round but will produce first round talent with some coaching in about 2-3 years. If he were to sit under the tutelage of a pocket passer who can teach him proper dropbacks under the center, how to go through progressions and the art of reestablishing a pocket, this will be a special talent who will put fans in the stands.
