The New York football Giants finished 2013 with a 7-9 record and failed to reach the playoffs for the second year in a row. Big Blue ranked 29th in the league in rushing with a scant 83.2-yd average per game and Andre Brown (no longer with the organization) was the teams’ leading rusher with a measly 492 yds. These statistics are scary enough but when you factor in QB Eli Manning was sacked 39 times and threw a career high 27 interceptions you have the stuff of nightmares and pink slips.

Lucky for New York, Andre Williams from Boston College amazingly slipped to the Giants in the 4th round at 113 overall.  Williams is a large and powerful young man at 6’0” and 230 lbs.; he is a cerebral player with superior instincts and vision. Most importantly to Eli Manning, Williams was flawless during his senior year in pass protection and blocking support.

Last season the BC Eagle lead the NCAA in rushing yards with 2,177 and 18 touchdowns. This adds up to be one of the best seasons in college football history for a tailback. Such gaudy statistics have not been seen at the collegiate level since HOF alumni Barry Sanders suited up for Oklahoma State. Along with his flirtation with Heisman greatness Williams won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s best running back and finished his college career ranked 5th all-time for the most yards rushing in a single season.

Williams will undoubtedly make the transition to the NFL as a smash mouth runner in short yardage situations.
In a post draft interview Coughlin could hardly contain his excitement when he exclaimed “We had this man graded high and we are fortunate to get him. This is a big powerful guy. He is able to break tackles and is fast enough that when he gets in the open he can go all the way.” The New York Football Giants have made a statement that’s loud and clear in the NFC North. Big Blue is committed to the run with a smash mouth tailback named Andre Williams. Division opponents beware.
