Trouble Ahead for Eric Decker in New York

by Jermaine Lockett

Do Receivers make QBs better or is it the other way around? In New York Jets’ WR Eric Decker’s case, he needs to immediately show he can improve on the game of his new counterpart Geno Smith.

Decker had some success in the past with mediocre QBs Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow, so he is familiar with his situation in New York. During that time under those substandard signal callers Decker still managed to stack up 50 receptions for 718-yds and 9 TDs from 2010-11.

Co-Owner of Couch Rider Report, DaMon Williams and I discuss the topic in the first of many videos to come from us.   What I did not mention in the video was the fact that when Decker lined up for the Denver Broncos, he had one-on-one matchups that were easy to beat due to the talent on his team drawing away attention. There was no possibility for a double-team when the masterful Peyton Manning was playing chess in his head with the Defense.

However in New York, there is no one who can draw that attention away from him.   Jacoby Ford was brought over from the Oakland Raiders to help with that problem. Jeremy Kerley and Ford will need to step up big to give Decker a chance to do what New York paid him 36.26 million dollars to do.
