The only Sanchez NFL Fans need to know about…

by Jermaine Lockett

Welcome back to the home of Original Sports Perspective, from our couch to yours. I hope you all enjoyed the recent video with Trevor Hudson talking NBA. If you haven’t had the pleasure of viewing it, I’ll just leave this right here.

Rare find???

Today however, I have come to speak to you about a rare find. When is the last time you saw a bold run-stopping corner? Sure, we have great lockdown-CBs today, such as Darrelle Revis, Josh Norman, and Patrick Peterson. However, have you ever seen a corner deliver thunderous hits to RBs? You will soon, because Zack Sanchez is coming to an NFL team near you.

Underweight? Not a problem?

This 5-11, 185lbs former Oklahoma Sooner may be a little light in the seat but with a good trainer, providing healthy gains, Zack will still be able to keep his aggressive play style at the next level.

I can dream, can’t I?

The ferocity in which this Texas grown product plays with is intimidating, and I’m sitting behind a computer watching the video. Imagine not having the replay button on YouTube and watching this young man light up Antonio Brown twice a year live. I am shaking in my military boots just thinking about it.

His “Swat hand” is strong!

Not only can the young man hit, but he can cover. I did not get to see his press coverage ability much, but his propensity to shadow and flat out annoy receivers is unparalleled. Even NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein said:

“Oklahoma redshirt junior CB Zack Sanchez was extremely productive for the Sooners last season … thanks to impressive anticipatory skills and quick-twitch athleticism…“

Fearless

Most corners in this game today are not as aggressive in their play style, due to the rule changes over the years. Some play timid in order to protect their team from penalties, or giving up the big play; Mr. Sanchez is not that guy. He is aggressive, sneaky and puts a foot in the ground the second the ball is released from the signal caller as if it is meant for him.

KNOCK KNOCK…

So with the good, comes the bad. Sanchez is jumpy and gets beat over the top. He gave up 12 TDs in three years. NFL analyst are discounting his speed and lowering his draft stock based on him jumping. They think he will constantly get beat on the double move. He ran a 4.4 at his pro-day.

The Couch Rider Take

Here’s the Couch Rider take, and you have probably heard me say this before. I would rather have an aggressive corner who takes chances and relies on his safety for support, than a scared “Cary Williams” type player, who is only there to make the tackle after the catch.

Normally the LSU fan in me wants to stick to SEC products due to my personal bias, but the guy is a gem. The numbers do not lie. Seven interceptions on the year speaks to his knack for finding the ball in the air. On my board William Jackson III and Jalen Ramsey are the only two that I see better than this two-time first-team All-Big 12 Baller. Sorry, I’m not sorry. I see talent and I call it out. Best of luck to this young man. I know he will flourish wherever he is drafted. Let’s just hope it’s the Baltimore Ravens. They could use the good news.
