Pats other CB better than Butler

by Jermaine Lockett

No talk, All Walk!!

There is a great deal of talk about Josh Norman and most of it is by him. However he can back it up with his gameplay. With that said there is another who deserves to be recognized for his performance as of late. What’s significant is that due to a fortuitous Super Bowl interception by Malcolm Butler he isn’t even the most talked about player on his team. Logan Ryan is a silent lockdown corner.

Making Believers

I wouldn’t have believed it until I saw it live. The former Rutgers star is not the most physical type but has a knack for annoying opposing wide receivers in a way that produces results or in his case next to no results.

He’s just that good!

When I think of DeAndre Hopkins, I think of a thrilling freakshow who will grab a circus catch TD after stacking on sensational catches that help move the chains down the field. Well outside of one 40-yard snag by the Houston Texans lead receiver Sunday against the New England Patriots, it was a relatively quiet night due to Ryan. Hopkins fielded 2 catches for 13 yards outside of the big play catch that was caught when the game was already out of hand.

Excuses Excuses

According to Joseph Andrews of the Boston Herald DeAndre Hopkins had this to say about the uneventful evening:

“They outcoached us. They outplayed us,” Hopkins said. “I was doubled the whole game. They just had a good game plan against us. They outcoached us. They outplayed us.”

Proof in the numbers!

This third year player has not only found a way to disrupt opposing team’s number one, he has managed to tie for ninth in the league in interceptions with nine. Additionally eight in the league passes defensed with 18.

More than one-dimensional

Initially I thought the Berlin, NJ native was only covering one side of the field; something like the “Richard Sherman” effect. However just in my observation of the last two games both Hopkins and Riley Cooper were both shut down. Cooper was even held to one catch for 14 yards.

Changing of the Guard?

There is a huge shift in the talent in this league and it is no longer safe to say the Darrelle Revis, Patrick Petersons or Richard Shermans stand atop the league when it comes to the word shutdown.
