When it comes to the Cleveland Browns’ receiving corps (leaving out TEs), we all thought it was Josh Gordon and then the rest of them; we were wrong. The Browns had a plan all along, or at least they stumbled upon a suitable replacement. Should Gordon face the annual suspension for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, Charles Johnson looks to be the player to step up in Cleveland.

The former Grand Valley State product was more than impressive during his collegiate career as he racked up 154-receptions for 2229-yards and 31-TDs in 2011- 2012. Johnson was drafted in 2012 with the 216th overall selection in the 7th round by the Green Bay Packers. With his prototypical size and notable numbers the Packers had to know he was an absolute steal. Held back by what appeared to a minor injury, the packers waived Johnson in September 2013. Cleveland then signed him in October and found that during his physical, he actually had an ACL injury.

Now the former Laker has fully recovered and is ready to help his team, who is in desperate need of an option at WR. Even with Gordon back in the mix (by some miracle), Johnson’s remarkable talent cannot just be set aside to rot on the bench. Even Head Coach Mike Pettine had this to say according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“He’s a guy that is deceptively fast. He doesn’t look like he’s covering a lot of ground but he is. I think his catch radius is bigger than most. He’s got long arms and he’s got (big) hands. He’s a guy that we hope can emerge from this as a guy that can help us.”

Any guy who comes in at 6’2/215 lbs runs a 4.38 and is already connecting with his QBs as shown by his 3 aggressive catches for 30 yards against the Detroit Lions Saturday evening can’t be ignored. The guy even has a YouTube highlight video from college check it out.

My prediction is once the preseason is over, the world will see this guy starting at the #2 WR spot for Cleveland.  It doesn’t matter if Johnny Manziel or Brian Hoyer is starting, they will look for this guy on the field.
