YES YOU CAM!!! No, no, no hold everything. The Carolina Panthers won Sunday and Cam Newton wasn’t at the helm? Who was? Derek Anderson? Very funny, next you’ll be telling me that a rookie led the team in receiving. I really have seen it all now. Anderson has had 4 NFL homes and finally looks to be developing as a decent QB. His stint with the Cleveland Browns was the last time we saw anything worth mentioning as he led them to a 10-6 record in 2007. Sunday’s showing says that Anderson has come a long way.

Cam Newton can rest easy knowing his job is still secure but hats off to Anderson for a noteworthy performance. Anderson looked calm and very composed as he stood confidently in the pocked and went 24 for 34 for 230-yards and 2-tds on Sunday. Analysts were worried for the Panthers receiving corps but they managed to make Anderson look great and vice-versa.

Kelvin Benjamin made Steve Smith’s departure a distant memory for Panthers fans against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday, as Anderson connected with the Florida State Rookie six different times for 92-yards and a visit to “Touchdown town”. All of this talk about supposedly dynamic receivers, like Sammy Watkins and fantasy monster players like Cam Newton makes you wonder after yesterday’s performance, if that is what really wins games.

Carolina unintentionally showed all one needs in order to be successful on the offensive side of the ball is a game manager, a good rush attack and a couple of big guys who play, well, big.

This is in no way a diss on Anderson’s performance. Heck, I would even go as far as saying if Cam could not go again, the team would have full confidence in sticking Anderson out there again against the Detroit Lions next week.

Carolina has a very fortuitous situation with 2 QBs that can handle the reigns and lead them to victory.
