Can Mark Sanchez focus with Kubiak Flirting?

Slap in the face…

Anyone playing second fiddle to Johnny Manziel, even in the offseason has to feel the strike at the chords of the heart. If I was Mark Sanchez, I would be pissed right now! The Denver Broncos were in desperate need for a game-managing QB, traded to bring in the former New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles and now they are courting Johnny Manziel? A guy who cannot put down the “drank” and is constantly in the headlines for partying? Even if this guy was not out partying, Sanchez has more experience and has been in some prime time games. Sanchez expects Denver to bring in someone and plans to compete to win the job. According to the Denver Post, he had this to say:

“They are going to give me a fair shake, that’s all I can ask for,” Sanchez said. “I will bet on myself and compete my butt off.”

More than the “butt-fumble”

Please move away from the memes of the butt-fumble. Chip Kelly actually turned this guy into a decent QB. Let’s take a look at the stats from the 2014 season with the artist formerly known as the “Sanchize”

Sanchez played in nine games in the 2014 season and had a career high QBR 88.3 with the Philadelphia Eagles. There was a significant difference in how Sanchez managed the game and set up Jordan Mathews for big plays downfield. I am not saying his play was off the charts, but I am saying he hit a personal best for that season.

Straight Choirboy

Another plus to Sanchez is that he is a model citizen off the field. No priors and no reason for Jerry Jones to want to recruit him, due to him having a clean record. However, with the amount of speeding tickets that I have in the Grapevine area, I am due for a tryout for the Dallas Cowboys. Anyway, now let’s look at the other option, “Mr. Show Me the Money” himself.

And then here comes trouble…

Denver may be trying to bring in a talented young man, but at what cost? This kid has a history of violence. He has been arrested for fighting, alleged assault, fake IDs, disorderly conduct, failure to identify and the list could go on if I dug any deeper. We’ve even seen that same anger translate to the field, as Manziel has slammed his hemet on the turf during games.

Furious Johnny Manziel slams helmet

According to rotoworld.com, Gary Kubiak and Johnny Manziel were only conversing on a personal level. I refuse to believe that. I believe Kubiak was actually trying to “kick the tires” to see where Johnny Football’s mind was at.

Lets just say the team did go in that direction; the Broncos would then clearly be dealing with a complete hothead, and would be wasting the pick that it took to put Sanchez in house. Would Johnny put fans in the stands like Tim Tebow did? Of course he would, but at what cost? Would you really want to put a kid with a partying problem in a weed state? It’s not like he is best friends with Josh Gordon or anything…oh wait he is!

Either way, this needs to fuel for Mark Sanchez to work even harder in the offseason to show the team, they made the right choice. He is already on the right path as he is already having passing camps with the top receivers.
