FORTALEZA, Brazil—“Goal, Goal, Goal…” Was the one phrase that was not used in the Mexico and Brazil game on Tuesday, June 17th! There were a total of 14 shots that Brazil attempted and 13 total shots that Mexico tried and neither side was able to get a goal throughout the game. Both teams played with perseverance and determination to win; however, Mexico’s goal keeper GuillermoMemoOchoa also made several outstanding saves during the game; which held Brazil to a 0-0 draw at the 2014 Soccer World Cup. Both teams in Group A are tied with 4 points after Tuesday’s game. Both teams need to score points in their final group games on June 23, if either one of them would like to move to the second round.

At the 26 minute mark, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior commonly known as Neymar headed the ball with a powerful hit towards the right goal post and Ochoa made a remarkable save for Mexico. Ochoa really set the tone for Mexico with that save. When Mexico coach, Miguel Herrera was interviewed he called Guillermo Ochoa “hero of the match.” There were a total of six difficult saves that Ochoa made during the game that helped his team to hold a 0-0 score against Brazil.

Brazil’s goal keeper Julio Cesar made 2 saves against Mexico during the game. He had a close scare when Andres Guardado, defender for Mexico, attempted a long-range shot; instead of it going in, it went slightly over the goal. That had many Brazilian fans gasping and at the edge of their seats after this play. The Brazilian team is known to be more powerful and have incredible footwork out in the field; however, Mexico really impressed everyone on how well they did and stood their ground. The next game for Mexico is on June 23 at 4:00 pm against Croatia, even though they are in 2nd place right now in Group A, they are going to have look out for Mario Mandzukic the striker for Croatia, who scored two goals against Cameroon.

Brazil is ranked number one in Group A but they play Cameroon on June 23, 2014 at 5:00 pm. These two games are going to be imperative for both Mexico and Brazil because it will determine who will be ranked number one in Group A.
