Fantasy Football: Bye-week saves records

You’re probably wondering where I’ve been fantasy-wise this season? Well, I’ll be honest with you. If I have not been having success, how can I tell you how to win? In both of my leagues, I am bombing big time and have one combined victory. That one victory was against someone who I share a bed with if that tells you anything. You’re probably wondering why I am leaking all of this information to you even though it hurts my credibility as a fantasy football guru. I am sharing this with you because of one word, resiliency.

Resiliency is the ability to bounce back. I have that ability. This season is not the first season I have come out the gates slow or in this case not at all. However, I am here to tell you that through the ashes, I shall rise. Would you like to know why?

Bye Weeks kill all except the already wounded. What I mean by that is the following notable people have bye weeks this week.

Sure, I could have just said there were four teams with a bye this week, but I felt the need to let you know how much your opponents will be hurting and scrambling for the wires to replace this production somehow. You see the position groups and what to look for. Here are some names to scoop up as they are being targeted everywhere to replace production.

Couch Change Pickups:

Terrance West – All the way up until last week Terrance West was nothing but a handcuff. Now, with Forsett gone, he is the bell-cow for the Ravens. I was probably the only one in the world to hang onto him, so he should be available in your adds. He will face a defense that let Isaiah Crowell go off for 120-yards and a TD this past weekend. Don’t wait, buy now!

Kenjon Barner – I have always been a fan of former Ducks as long as their name is not Marcus Mariota. With 42 yds and a TD last week, you need to take a look at this guy. It’s not like Philly’s starting spot is concrete. Pick up now or pay later. CAUTION: Wendell Smallwood might be the hot hand but stash KB for now.

Fozzy Whitaker – I am honestly not high on this guy, but when you get 86 rec yards as a Back, I can’t ignore it. After getting spanked by ATL, The angry Carolina Panthers are about to take it all out on TB, who’s defense is bottom-feeder trash.
Brian Quick – Quick has three TDs on the season already. While he is still the #2 receiver for Case Keenum, he still sees the deep shot throws. This guy is boom or bust, but as Keenum continues to develop confidence, his numbers will go up. The Bills are next on the schedule and have given up an average of 6.3 FPS per game to number two receivers. I know that is nothing to write home about but combine that 6.3 with a TD, and we’re talking about a player who goes from mediocre to something nice with 12.3 FPS now.

Steve Smith Sr. – For some reason, this angry old vet is hanging around waiver wires. Anyone who gets targeted 11 times a game two weeks in a row deserves a shot. Joe Flacco is building the chemistry once again with the feisty little guy.

Sammie Coates – No TDs but led the team in targets with eight. Yall know how I feel about them targets. Antonio Brown will be busy on Revis Island this week, so be ready to snag this talent off the wire for immediate reward.

John Brown – Apparently someone told Larry Fitzgerald what his real age was and that he should not be doing the things he was in week 2 and two for the Cardinals. John Brown has since stepped up into a bigger role. I believe he is going torch SF in a couple of days.

Stay away from (Gum between cushion):

Victor Cruz – There are too many mouths to feed with the G-MEN. Odell Beckham was targeted like crazy but failed to translate in the stat column. Sterling Shepard sees 7-targets a game, and so is Cruz. You’ll never know who is the hot hand the next week. Also, I’m betting with the way GB has been letting the #1 WR go nuts against them lately. Odell will get all of the love.

Vincent Jackson – Look there is not going to be much thought into this guy. Just know that any uptick he has is the anomaly and not the standard. Stay far far away from this roster killer.

I feel this message needs to be delivered to the Miami Dolphins’ DBs. I’m sure the Cincinnati Bengals’ weapon of real estate destruction has destroyed confidence. AJ Green returned to dominance last night with 10-catches for 173-yards and a touchdown. Xavien Howard and Tony Lippett, this message is for you. Take the ropes off the ceiling fan and put the chairs away! It’s going to be ok. You’re not that terrible; AJ is just that great.

It’s not all your fault!

There were plenty of mistakes from the game to place blame all around the Dolphins. There were penalties and ineffectiveness from the offense as well as special teams that played into the loss. Just because the two of you got “Mossed” in a way that would leave me in the fetal position for weeks does not mean this game is all of you.

It’s fine! You’re a rookie!

In the military, the junior grade members get to rely on the excuse of “I’m just an Airman, Private, Seaman, etc.” when everything goes south. Howard, you are a rookie who gets a pass, especially against one of the best in the game. Pull yourself together, watch the game tape, learn from this experience and come back stronger. Of course, there is the 24-hour rule to get over a loss. I hope that this is enough time to deal with any PTSD issues that may arise from getting beasted on. Lippett, I have not forgotten about you, my friend.

Scrawny Tony

Tony, did you know that at 194-lbs, you are the fourth lightest player on the team? Dude, you are 6-3! How is it the kicker, Andrew Franks weighs more than you!? I am a fan of corners with size. Size, both height and weight attribute to the way you can engage a WR. In Green’s case, you have to have a good combo of size and speed to give him a tough time. Green managed to size you up upon stepping on the field and basically shrugged you off on his 7-yard scamper to paydirt. My advice to you is to simply EAT! Go to dinner with a big spoon young man. Don’t talk during the meal, just feed your face! Get your weight up and in the words of Olivia Newton-John, “Get Physical!”

Your job is to say hello to receivers at the snap and abruptly escort their posterior to the sideline. Additionally, you need to make them consider making a business decision when it comes to their next catch.

Anyone wondering who on the Minnesota Vikings is going to step up to help Sam Bradford out? Not Anymore. Two guys managed to step up for him on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. We all know that even very garbage QBs rely on their TE for production. Kyle Rudolph was expected to immediately take care of the 2008 Heisman Winner. Rudolph is expected to use his size and sneaky speed to assist his QB in putting up points. However, what was surprising was the performance of Stefon Diggs.

More than the deep ball

The 2015 fifth round pick was targeted 10-times and completed 9-catches for 182-yards and even saw pay-dirt. Diggs had a stellar first half, gaining 86-yds before the third quarter. Normally, Diggs is known for his ability to stretch the field by running the three common routes that speedsters generally run. Diggs was getting in and out of his routes with ease, clearly proving to be the best receiver on the field Sunday Night as he straight up embarrassed Demarious Randall all night long. I know his leaving to the Baltimore Ravens during the offseason is still fresh on Vikings’ fans hearts, so I won’t touch on it again. I’ll now bring the talk back to Diggs/Bradford.

Consistency is key

Here’s what is crazy: Bradford has only been in Minnesota for a couple of weeks, but his chemistry with Diggs this early is uncanny. You would think he’s been playing with the guy for years. Have I been wrong about Bradford all this time? Is he really a solid QB in this league or is he the most overrated waste of money to every play the game? Or is the former Maryland product just making him look better while at the same time proving to the world that he is more than just a speedster. I mean, he did have 7-catches for 103-yards last week. Ravens vs Browns: West will be One

Terrance West has been the talk of the town. The Towson product had such a productive offseason that it was evident the starting RB job was his. I was 100 percent sure that he would be the bell-cow for the Baltimore Ravens. I even wrote a post on it here. However after seeing the carry distribution through the Ravens v Bills’ game, aren’t you worried as to what his role will be in this offense?

Justin Forsett was almost a name of the past but due to some smooth moving by Ozzie Newsome, the 2014 Pro-Bowler is back on the roster and considered the number one option for the team. Where does that leave West? His hard work during the offseason did not go unnoticed. John Harbaugh ensured his labors were lauded in the first game of the season.

Harbaugh is being mum about the rotation or workload going in one way or another, saying that there is no formula according to BaltimoreRavens.com. However, I believe in matches like this Sunday it will be different. West is facing his old team; the one that drafted him ahead of Baltimore. Don’t let the calm tone fool you. This visit is personal. According to BR.com, West had this to say:

“It would feel good to get a win over Cleveland, but I’m not going to
get all jacked up,” West said. “I’m going to treat it like any other game.”

My guess is the guy had this game pinned on his schedule all offseason, and that has been his motivation to explode all over the offseason. It’s no secret that any team that thinks you’re not good enough for them especially Cleveland places a chip on your shoulder.

Based on his 12 carries last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, Harbs split the touches. Justin may have gotten the better average last week (4.2 ypg), but it will be the FCS Single Season Rushing TD record holder (41) who takes the brunt of the work on Sunday.

Break out the champagne, call up the homies and blow up your group football text feed, because the Baltimore Ravens just got a W over the Buffalo Bills. The victory, of course, will be a short-lived victory due to the 24-hour rule. I saw something today. Something I haven’t seen in years, actual defense! It was incredible to see disguised blitzes, pressure actually getting through the line, and the run game stopped on the edges. We even saw Terrell Suggs get a sack! LeSean McCoy still saw pay dirt but was held to just 58-yards rushing on the day. The main cog to this D is an entirely unexpected one. Shareece Wright, you are that Cog.

He’s so blue-collar

Today before even looking up the stats, I already knew who the player of the game was. This six-year veteran player was just that today, a vet. Wright was constantly around the ball. The way he covers to the way he hustles, he’s just a high-motor, blue-collar type of guy. John Harbaugh is probably reading this right now getting all excited I stole his saying.

When he wasn’t breaking up passes, he was sealing off running lanes and making tackles. The former San Diego Charger had 11-tackles (all unassisted) throughout the match.

Leading all Ravens in tackles, the former USC Trojan gave us all a possible preview of the rest of the season. I am a huge believer of CBs that don’t mind getting dirty and that was exactly the case with Wright. Initially, I had no belief in Dean Pees or this secondary.

Keep this guy!

I thought this D was trash to be honest, even with a healthy Jimmy Smith in the fold. However, it’s nice to see that I see a leader come from complaining on the bench for the San Francisco 49ers, to becoming a starter here in Baltimore. Wright signed a three-year deal with the team in March. Here’s to hoping he sticks around for the whole deal and more.
