Is Justin Herbert college’s top QB?

by Damian Parson

This past April in the NFL draft, we witnessed 5 quarterbacks drafted in the first round. This was one pick shy of the 1983 record of 6 signal callers selected in the first round. The most important position in football is quarterback and most teams are still searching for their franchise guy. In this weekend’s games we heard names such as, Jarrett Stidham, Drew Locke, Will Grier, Mckenzie Milton, & Trace McSorley. In primetime, the spotlight was on the gun slinging Oregon Duck heading into a conference battle vs Stanford. Can Justin Herbert make the case for the top quarterback prospect?

Standing 6’6 240 lbs, JH has the polarizing frame and tools to succeed at the next level. In last night’s game, the gun slinging QB started hot and remained that way until overtime. He finished 26/33 346 yds 1 td & 1 interception. The ducks had the game won, but a few questionable calls or non-calls by the referees and the head coach made it easier to let the game slip through their fingers. Justin displayed his arm talent isn’t just hype as he made throw after throw. He can make any throw on the field and with precision to boot. Unlike some of the other potential top QBs, he answered the bell and performed as such.

Everyone wants a dual threat or mobile signal caller, and Herbert offers that ability. He can slice and dice defense with his passing ability but adds the extra element to run RPO’s & read options. Pairing his long frame, athletic ability, lively arm, & quick release teams must be salivating over drafting this kid. The season is still young, and anything can happen, but right now Herbert is locked in as my QB1. Until someone takes the crown from the Oregon Duck, he will sail all the way to Nashville. Below are some plays from last night’s game.
