Nearing the end of Free Agency a lot of teams are making big splashes to make sure they make the playoffs next year, although one team is quietly making what many consider to be huge improvements from a team that really had very few holes but ultimately missed out on the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Here is a review of the Los Angeles Chargers Free Agency pickups and what they may bring to the team.

The first thing the Chargers went out and did was immediately address their biggest hole which was the kicking game, They signed Caleb Sturgis (K) formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles to a 2 year 4.45 million dollar deal.

Sturgis  age 28 has hit 81% of his field goals in his career and should bring some solidity to a kicking unit that only hit 61% of their kicks last season. Although Sturgis missed most of 2017 with injury he should make an immediate impact on kickoffs and clutch kicks, something the Chargers desperately need.

The Chargers then went out and signed former Denver Bronco Virgil Green to a 3 year 8.6 million dollar deal. Green, considered as one of the better blocking tight ends should help free up some running holes for RB Melvin Gordon. He should in no way be considered Antonio Gates replacement but merely as another tool for Head Coach Anthony Lynn to use.

Green has amassed a total of (71) receptions  and (807) yards with (4) Touchdowns in his 7 years pro.
