2018 Draft Prospects: Options at 32 for the Eagles

Draft needs eagles

With Free Agency in full swing, the Philadelphia Eagles have been very busy. GM Howie Roseman has made all types of moves to get under the salary cap and add players at the same time. With the re-signing of LB Nigel Bradham, the trade of Torrey Smith, the additions of Haloti Ngata and Corey Nelson and the loss of Patrick Robinson, Brent Celek, and LaGarrette Blount, the Eagles now have a new list of needs. Some of these can be addressed with bargain free agents still on the market, but alot will have to be addressed in the draft. Here are a few options that would fit very nicely in Philadelphia’s offensive and defensive schemes.

Jessie Bates 6’1 200 Safety Wake Forest – In Jim Schwartz defensive scheme a third Safety plays 60% of the snaps in a deep coverage role. Previously that role belonged to Corey Graham, but he’s over 30 and an unrestricted free agent. Bates fits perfectly with his excellent coverage and range. Bates brings added value with his ability to play the slot and return punts. He fills a bunch of needs.

Ronald Jones 5’11 200 RB USCJones brings the one thing the Eagles running game lacks….explosiveness. Jones is a threat to score whenever he touches the ball. With Jay Ajayi heading into the final year of his contract and the Eagles open about their concerns about his knee problems, it’s no guarantee he’s here long term. That leaves Corey Clement a rotational player and unproven young players on the roster. Jones would be an excellent long term solution.

Isaiah Wynn 6’2 300 T/G/C Georgia – While not a sexy pick, Wynn would certainly be a safe one. Wynn excels at every position on the offensive line. The Eagles could use some youth and depth on the interior of the line, and Wynn provides all of it.

Rashaan Evans 6’3 234 LB Alabama – The Eagles did very well to bring back Nigel Bradham he brings alot of stability to the position.  Often injured Jordan Hicks is a bit more of a worry. When healthy Hicks is an incredible player, but the Eagles must protect themselves if he goes down again. Evans brings the athleticism and versatility that blends nicely in the Eagles defense.

Leighton Vander Esche 6’4 256 LB Boise State – For the same reasons as stated above Vander Esche would be a welcomed addition to the Linebacker room in Philadelphia.

Connor Williams 6’5 320 LT Texas – While somewhat of a long shot to be available, Williams can step in and challenge Hal Vaitai for the LT position when Jason Peters ends his Hall of Fame career. A strong and athletic mauler is always welcomed in Philly.
